Pre-School, Play school & Day Care
Importance of Preschool Education
While trying to express their needs, children move through several stages of development — from general to specific and from gross motor skills to finer motor skills. A Preschool is the environment that can help and provides the space, time and opportunity to explore and develop.
Preschool covers the period, before a child enrolls in the school system. Preschool is not merely an age-band; it is a period when children should be engaged in learning what is preparatory to formal learning. The emphasis is thus on preparation, and the most important task of an instructor is to ensure children gets this. The purpose of Pre-schooling is not to start formal education early. But to prepare the children to be confident and efficient in learning. This preparation is very important since this teaches the children certain classroom skills along with social skills.
Researchers have shown repeatedly that 80 per cent of physiological (brain) development and psychological (mind) take place between 0 and 6 years of age and a child's affinity for several skills is also highest during this point.
Role of Parents:
Several years ago, every joint family was a learning center with many aunts, uncles, cousins and most importantly grandparents living together, and providing children all the skills needed before entering formal schooling. The scene is very different today. Most families are nuclear and with both parents working, they have very little time for children. In this situation, what is the role of the parents? Sending the children to a preschool is a major investment for the parents and a giant leap for the children.
It is the first step that is going to make a difference to all their later learning. Preschool offers plenty of chances for social development.
